The Department of Biological Sciences at Rutgers University is seeking part-time instructors to teach biology surveys, recitations, laboratories, or upper-level courses focused on specific themes or topics. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing course materials, creating and posting a course syllabus, presenting material during assigned course times, holding office hours, and providing out-of-class time for students. The instructor will also be responsible for responding to student inquiries, conducting and grading assessments, and submitting final grades.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver course materials, including lectures, assignments, and exams
  • Create and post a course syllabus, including course objectives, requirements, and policies
  • Present material during assigned course times, including lectures, discussions, and laboratory sessions
  • Hold office hours and provide out-of-class time for students, including one-on-one meetings and group discussions
  • Respond to student inquiries and provide support and guidance as needed
  • Conduct and grade assessments, including assignments, exams, and other evaluations
  • Submit final grades in a timely manner

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related area required
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at the university level
