Position Overview:
The Patient Care Assistant I functions as an integral part of the nursing staff, operating under the direct and indirect guidance of the Registered Nurse. This role involves assisting in the delivery of fundamental patient care focused on comfort and safety, adhering to established training and certification standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uphold the confidentiality of all patient and organizational records.
- Stay informed about departmental communications and updates.
- Coordinate with the Charge RN/Supervising RN to ensure proper coverage when leaving the unit.
- Receive assignments from the charge nurse and regularly report on the status of these tasks during the shift.
- Effectively communicate patient care information to maintain high standards of care.
- Engage with patients, families, and colleagues in a professional and respectful manner.
- Assist members or connect them with the appropriate personnel as required.
- Adhere to safe practice standards in all performance aspects.
- Ensure safety in the operation of all equipment, following manufacturer instructions and hospital policies.
- Report equipment malfunctions and initiate repair requests as per policy.
- Verify patient identification prior to performing any duties.
- Manage hazardous and infectious waste in compliance with relevant regulations.
- Participate appropriately during emergency situations.
- Deliver services that prioritize patient comfort and safety.
- Assist patients and team members with safe lifting, transferring, and transporting.
- Support the application of safety devices as directed by the RN.
- Perform delegated tasks as outlined in the CNA I Scope of Duties.
- Accurately measure and document vital signs, promptly reporting any abnormalities to the supervising RN.
- Collect and transport specimens as necessary.
- Document the completion of assigned tasks on designated forms.
- Report any changes in patient condition to the supervising RN.
- Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all patients.
- Complete assigned tasks efficiently and within designated timeframes.
- Collaborate with the supervising RN to prioritize tasks based on the situation and overall assignment.
- Remain flexible and adaptable to changes in the work environment and assignments.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience:

Education:
- Completion of a basic nursing assistant training program approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) is required.
Licensure, Certification, Registration:
- Nursing Assistant Certificate - Level 1 (Oregon)
- Basic Life Support Certification
Additional Requirements:
- Physical Requirements:
- Lifting and carrying: Able to lift and carry at least 40 pounds.
- May assist in the movement of patients and/or equipment of varying weights.
- Bending: Capable of bending up to 60 times per shift at both the waist and knees.
- Walking: Able to stand and/or walk for the entire shift, covering distances of three to five miles.
- Push/pull weights of 100 to 300 pounds with assistance.
- Standing: Capable of standing for six to eight hours per shift.
- BLS with AED Certification.
- Note: Employees must adhere to all prescribed safety protocols to prevent accidents or exposure to illness.
