Job Overview:

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is actively seeking qualified candidates for the role of Nutrition Education Program Coordinator for community outreach.

This position requires on-site educational delivery, thus reliable transportation is essential as some venues may not be accessible via public transport.

The primary responsibilities include:

Community Outreach:
Collaborate with local agencies to identify and engage potential program participants.

Educational Initiatives:
Implement established curricula to deliver educational sessions focused on promoting healthy eating and physical activity. The programs will also emphasize skills related to cooking, food safety, and economical grocery shopping.

Program Adaptation and Management:
Tailor lessons and materials to meet the specific needs of diverse audiences. Organize special events and groups to enhance community outreach.

Program Development Support:
Assist in the planning, directing, and coordination of educational initiatives that address community needs.

Collaboration:
Work in partnership with a team of professionals to achieve program goals and strengthen community alliances.

This is a part-time role, requiring 30 hours per week, primarily during weekdays with occasional evening and weekend commitments.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare, present, and modify educational materials to address the unique needs of individuals or small groups.

Adapt curricula and educational resources for various teaching formats (including virtual platforms) to suit participant requirements and skill levels.

Engage with organized groups such as service organizations, senior centers, and community clubs to deliver informative programs.
Coordinate special activities and events tailored for specific audiences.
Maintain accurate records of participant progress and generate reports.
Disseminate information through various channels such as demonstrations, brochures, seminars, video conferences, and emails to targeted audiences.
Recruit program participants and volunteers.
Participate in regular training and conferences, either in-person or virtually.

Determine meeting logistics (in-person or virtual), schedule classes, organize educational materials, and coordinate appointments with participants.

Adjust educational strategies and material selections for online formats as needed.
May assist in training new staff members, volunteer leaders, and committees.
Ensure confidentiality of records and participant information.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of community resources.
Awareness of issues and facts related to educational programming.
Basic arithmetic skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and decimals.
