Description:
The Public Safety Officer Academy Participant position is designed for individuals who are either currently enrolled in the California POST Basic Academy or have recently graduated from it. This role involves a comprehensive training program focused on various aspects of public safety, including law enforcement, crime prevention, fire response, rescue operations, and basic life support.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of a Public Safety Lieutenant or Captain, participants will:
- Engage in extensive training to develop skills necessary for effective public safety work.
- Learn to perform essential duties related to the protection of life and property.
- Participate in practical exercises that simulate real-world emergency situations.
Working Conditions:
This role requires physical stamina and the ability to perform various tasks, including prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking. Participants must be capable of lifting and moving equipment, as well as running and climbing as necessary during training exercises.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following educational requirements:
- Attendees: Completion of 45 semester or 67 quarter units from an accredited institution and current enrollment in a California POST Basic Academy.
- Graduates: An Associate's degree or 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited institution, along with graduation from a California POST Basic Academy within the last 18 months.
Knowledge and Skills:
Candidates should possess a foundational understanding of:
- Basic principles of law enforcement and fire protection.
- Effective communication and customer service practices.
- Office procedures and the use of relevant software.
Willingness to:
Adhere to the ethical standards of law enforcement and comply with departmental policies and procedures.
