Job Summary

The County of Santa Clara is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Director of Custody Health Services. This role will oversee the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services to incarcerated individuals, including medical, mental health, and specialty services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare administration, with experience in managing large-scale healthcare systems and teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction to the full range of medical, mental health, dental, pharmacy, allied, and specialized medical care services provided in the County's custodial facilities.
  • Work in partnership with Custody Bureau partners to solve day-to-day operational issues.
  • Ensure appropriate clinical resources are available to support and maintain staff competencies in the field of correctional/custody health and behavioral healthcare.
  • Develop strategies, and initiatives, and set overall priorities to improve the quality, and timeliness of care.
Requirements
  • Considerable and progressive education, training, and experience which would demonstrate the ability to perform the above tasks and the possession of the following knowledge and abilities.
  • Master's degree in nursing, Health Care or Hospital Administration, Behavioral Health Sciences, Social Services, Public or Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years recent progressive management experience in a large custodial system, and/or a division in a public health and/or health system providing medical care, mental health, alcohol, drug and/or behavioral health services.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Medical or nursing license.
  • Knowledge of the principles of health and hospital system organization and administration, including the principles of custodial healthcare service planning, organization and delivery.
  • Regulations and laws common to the operations of custody health services particularly in California, including standards of the National Commission on Correction Treatment Centers and National Institute of Corrections.
