Position Overview
The Senior Underwriter will play a crucial role in developing and managing a profitable portfolio of Commercial E&S Excess businesses. This position involves establishing and nurturing effective relationships with our select wholesale distribution partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough evaluations at the account level, applying appropriate terms and pricing selections.
- Underwrite within established program guidelines and your underwriting authority.
- Collaborate with Home Office Underwriting to formulate and implement underwriting guidelines, appetite, and production forecasts.
- Promote the unique advantages of Coaction’s offerings to distinguish us from competitors.
- Engage actively with our wholesale partners to ensure alignment regarding appetite, opportunities, workflow, and portfolio profitability.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for enhancing workflow efficiency.
- Drive innovation in product/service selection and pricing within the portfolio.
- Regularly conduct marketing visits to our broker base and participate in relevant industry conventions.
Ultimately, you will be recognized for building a sustainable and profitable portfolio over the long term.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in business or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as an Underwriter in the Wholesale Excess sector.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel.
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
- Established relationships with wholesale brokers.
- Advanced knowledge of E&S commercial excess products, underwriting processes, relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends.
- Proven track record of developing and maintaining strong relationships with wholesale brokers.
- Willingness to travel 10-20% of your work time, as needed.
- Demonstrated personal accountability and integrity, with the ability to foster strong, productive relationships across the business.
- Strong decision-making skills, with the capacity to articulate reasoning and think critically.
- A credible source of information, capable of challenging and influencing decision-makers through excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A self-starter who requires minimal management to accomplish tasks.
