Position Overview

The Aircraft Systems Engineer is accountable to the Manager of Aircraft Systems Engineering, ensuring the technical precision and dependability of aircraft mechanical systems and components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluates and implements Airworthiness Directives (ADs) to guarantee adherence to relevant regulations.
  • Assesses Service Bulletins, Service Letters, and similar documents for relevance and system reliability, as well as potential economic advantages.
  • Generates technical documentation necessary for the modification and repair of aircraft systems and components.
  • Secures regulatory endorsement for modifications and repairs conducted on JetBlue aircraft systems and components.
  • Creates tailored procedures and specific criteria for repairs, modifications, inspections, servicing, and other maintenance tasks that are not sufficiently covered in existing manuals.
  • Drafts engineering documents such as Engineering Orders (EOs) and Engineering Authorizations (EAs) to provide technical guidance for repairs, modifications, inspections, or other maintenance activities on aircraft systems and components, aligning with airline and departmental goals.
  • Establishes specifications for the construction of aircraft systems and components.
  • Offers operational support during off-hours for Line Maintenance and Maintenance/Repair/Overhauls (MROs).
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, with experience in aircraft systems, including but not limited to Air Conditioning, Fire Detection, Flight Controls, Fuel, Hydraulics, Ice and Rain Protection, Landing Gear, Oxygen, Pneumatics, Water and Waste, and Nitrogen Generation Systems. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in another Engineering discipline with an Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Technician Certificate, or an Associate's degree in a technical field, an A&P Technician Certificate, and three (3) years of A&P Technician experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of engineering or technical experience.
  • Experience in troubleshooting aircraft systems.
  • Familiarity with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) governing aircraft certification and maintenance.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Availability for overnight travel (20%).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test.
  • Legally authorized to work in the country where the position is located.
  • Authorization to work in the US is required; this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Certificate.
  • Experience with Airbus aircraft.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the airline industry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Ability to conduct reliability analysis to identify root causes of system issues.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong analytical abilities.
  • Able to convey technical matters in a clear and respectful manner.
  • Project management skills.
  • Capable of managing and coordinating multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Flexibility to work varied hours and respond on short notice.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Assist with light cleaning of the aircraft when working or traveling on JetBlue flights, if time allows.

  • Act as a Safety Ambassador, promoting JetBlue's #1 value of safety and supporting the Safety Management System (SMS) components and policies.
  • Identify and report safety and security concerns, incidents, or hazards through appropriate channels.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.), and company policies and procedures.
  • Understand and uphold JetBlue's safety performance metrics in relation to their responsibilities.
  • Use of automated tools during the interview process will disqualify candidates from consideration.
Equipment Used:
  • Computer and standard office equipment.
  • Safety gear such as ear plugs and goggles for on-site support.
Work Environment:
  • Traditional office setting.
  • Hangar environment.
  • Irregular work shifts, on-call duties, and multiple work locations.
  • Outdoor work may be required, subject to seasonal weather conditions.
  • Work schedule determined by seniority (days, swings, or midnight shifts, including holidays).
  • Travel may be necessary.
  • Ability to work in elevated areas.
Physical Requirements:
  • Light physical effort is required, including handling objects weighing up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
Compensation:
  • The base salary range for this position is between $90,000.00 and $118,400.00 annually. This base salary is part of JetBlue's comprehensive compensation package, which may also include healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan with company matching, a stock purchase plan for crewmembers, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, and complimentary travel on JetBlue.
