Position Overview

Peraton is seeking a dedicated Aerospace Engineer to join our team supporting NASA's Sounding Rocket Operations Contract (NSROC) at the Wallops Flight Facility. This sub-orbital space flight initiative plays a crucial role in providing launch vehicles and payload development, facilitating significant scientific research in Earth, Heliophysics, and Astrophysics.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be an integral part of the Launch Vehicle Engineering group, contributing to various sounding rocket missions. Responsibilities include:
  • Design and test mechanical systems for launch vehicles.
  • Support ground operations during payload integration and testing phases.
  • Conduct hazardous testing involving pyrotechnics.
  • Prepare and present technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Utilize programming skills in C, C++, C#, Matlab, and Python for software development.
  • Engage in technical discussions with customers and collaborators.
  • Oversee the management of flight hardware inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with quality management systems and safety protocols.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Up to 2 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with test instrumentation such as oscilloscopes and vibration tables.
  • Basic understanding of static and dynamic analysis for flight structures.
  • Knowledge of rocket motor dynamics.
Preferred:
  • Experience with structural analysis and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Proficiency in Matlab and Python programming.
  • Solidworks Certification.
  • Background in rocket propulsion technologies.
