Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Painter to join our team at Conroe Independent School District. As a Painter, you will be responsible for applying coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimming, and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout the district.

Key Responsibilities
  • Surface Preparation: Smooth and prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint.
  • Filling and Repairing: Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, and other filler.
  • Taping and Texturing: Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings.
  • Paint Mixing and Application: Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.
  • Painting and Finishing: Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray fun, or paint rollers, and apply paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects.
  • Staining and Varnishing: Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
  • Scaffolding and Ladder Setup: Erect scaffolding or set up ladder to perform tasks above ground level.
  • Supply Management: Pick up and deliver painting supplies to campuses; maintain delivery records.
  • Inspection and Quality Control: Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment by following established inspection procedures.
  • Work Order Completion: Receive and complete work orders.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.
  • Job Completion and Cleanliness: Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
  • Safety Procedures: Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
  • Correcting Unsafe Conditions: Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Tool and Equipment Maintenance: Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Chemical Handling: Help keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
  • Emergency Response: Handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.
  • Tool and Equipment Inspection: Inspect tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.
  • Emergency Calls: Respond to emergency calls as needed and be on-call/stand-by as assigned by supervisor.
  • Confidentiality and Attendance: Maintain confidentiality. Regular attendance.
Requirements
  • Experience: Four years in all phases of commercial painting.
  • Education/Certification: High School Diploma or Equivalent (prior painting experience may substitute for this requirement). Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in the painting trade. Ability to properly apply paints. Knowledge of and ability to mix paint to match colors. Ability to follow written and verbal instruction. Ability to work independently.
