Position Overview:

The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is tasked with the strategic planning and execution of nutritional care for patients, adhering to all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, clinical guidelines, and organizational policies. This role involves collaboration with the Culinary Services Manager to guarantee the provision of safe and precise food services to patients.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership Duties:
  • Completes annual competency assessments in line with company standards and maintains a professional development portfolio to uphold registration and licensure.
  • Executes responsibilities in compliance with applicable regulations, company policies, and evidence-based clinical guidelines.
  • Operates within the defined Scope of Practice as established by the credentialing agency for Registered Dietitians.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to patient nutritional care as needed.
  • Engages in the Facility's Performance Improvement initiatives by analyzing and acting on data related to key clinical nutrition metrics.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives relevant to dietary and nutrition services.
  • Oversees quality assurance in food service operations, ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
  • Assists during regulatory surveys, guiding staff on conduct and documentation, and ensuring timely information collection.
  • Serves on various committees as required by organizational standards.
Direct Patient Care:
  • Conducts initial assessments and ongoing evaluations for all patients admitted to the facility.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of assessments, care plans, and discharge planning.
  • Prescribes and monitors nutrition therapy tailored to meet individual patient needs.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings to develop and oversee nutrition care plans.
  • Interviews patients and their families to gather dietary histories and preferences for care planning.
  • Advocates for patient rights and accommodates individual dietary needs and preferences.
  • Involves patients and families in setting objectives and goals for care.
  • Provides nutrition education to patients, families, and staff as appropriate.
  • Conducts meal rounds to ensure dietary needs are met.
  • Collaborates with the Food Service Director to address patient concerns regarding meals.
Menu Management:
  • Oversees the menu management process, ensuring compliance with dietary standards.
  • Reviews and approves all patient menus, including any necessary substitutions.
  • Ensures accuracy in the transcription of diet orders within the department.
  • Monitors snack orders to ensure timely distribution according to diet orders.
  • Provides training on therapeutic diets and food safety to staff as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Adheres to the Company's Code of Business Conduct and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Utilizes independent judgment in the execution of duties.
  • Collaborates effectively with colleagues across all departments.
  • Communicates concerns and opportunities for improvement to supervisors regularly.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in dietetics or a related field.
  • Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Licensed or certified by the State Licensing Board for Dietitians.
  • Food Protection Manager Certification from an accredited program.
  • Preferred: Two years of experience in Long Term Care and Rehabilitation.
