Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Assembly Technician to join our team at Wabtec Corporation. As a key member of our manufacturing team, you will be responsible for the fitting and assembling of basic to complex mechanical and electromechanical equipment and assemblies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble, test, and inspect mechanical and electrical components according to engineering drawings and work instructions.
  • Work with electrical and mechanical equipment, including machinery, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Maintain assembly and test equipment as required.
  • Move material to and from workstations by hand, cart, and crane as needed.
  • Use machinery safely and efficiently, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Inspect and test completed units, and read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and drawings.
  • Interpret routing instructions, and tag or mark identifying information on parts.
  • Grease or lubricate parts as required, and adjust and grind down parts if necessary.
  • Inspect parts for flaws and imperfections, and position and fasten units to assemblies and subassemblies.
  • Fasten cables and wiring, and use calipers and micrometers to measure parts and determine tolerances.
  • Bond components using adhesives, and measure dimensions/clearance of parts.
  • Perform other duties as required, and follow all housekeeping and safety rules.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 1 year mechanical assembly experience or equivalent training certification.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, and mechanical component assembly experience.
  • High-level knowledge and experience with hand and power tools.
  • Basic math and measuring skills, and experience with calipers, micrometers, and other measuring equipment.
  • Ability to read fabrication and assembly blueprints, and interpret technical manuals and work procedures.
  • Ability for critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and ability to work with electrical systems.
  • Some repetitive lifting up to 50 pounds, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with little supervision, and be self-motivated and a self-starter.

The employee must occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an indoor manufacturing environment. The employee will work in areas exposed to production activities to include but not limited to production machinery, assembly operations, overhead cranes usage, and forklift traffic. The employee will be required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to workplace hazards.

Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; and interact with other employees, customers and vendors.
