Job Overview: Mechanical Assembly Technician
Position Objective: The Mechanical Assembly Technician reports to the manufacturing supervisor and is tasked with the assembly, installation, alignment, adjustment, and fitting of subassemblies and components or auxiliary equipment utilizing appropriate tools and machinery in an industrial environment. This role operates under moderate supervision with limited interaction with external suppliers or clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble and conduct preset calibration/final testing. Engage in low to moderately complex assembly and testing tasks. Products may include, but are not limited to, small items, light subassemblies, and/or complete units of smaller dimensions.
- Assemble, install, align, adjust, and fit subassemblies and components or auxiliary equipment following work instructions.
- Maintain cleanliness of parts and ensure proper upkeep of tools and equipment according to established work guidelines.
- Adhere to work instructions related to assembly skills to achieve certification for tasks performed.
- Work with precise tolerances and fits to fulfill engineering and operational specifications.
- Retrieve and/or organize parts from designated storage areas and place completed components accordingly.
- Accurately complete all necessary documentation, including Quality Assurance and Test Records.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain knowledge and compliance with all housekeeping standards in the work area.
- Complete Quality Assurance and Test Record (QAATR) reports.
- May disassemble and manage returned units under supervision.
- May conduct assembly audits after achieving certification.
- Perform low to moderately complex flow and/or pressure testing of assembly components.
- Execute test stand preset calibration and final testing of products.
- Encourage teamwork within the organization.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in using a variety of basic hand tools (e.g., wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, scrapers, box cutters).
- Ability to apply inspection techniques and utilize inspection tools effectively.
- Knowledge of using torque wrenches to adjust or install parts and equipment according to established specifications.
- Understanding of how quality impacts organizational success, including costs associated with customer satisfaction and potential recalls.
- Ability to notice minute inconsistencies in parts, equipment, or production processes to prevent defective products from leaving the facility.
- Proficient in using computer and web-based systems for information management.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to convey information clearly to colleagues and supervisors.
- General understanding of machinery functionality and the application of tools on such equipment.
- Demonstrated eagerness and ownership of work activities.
- Ability to accurately complete forms, reports, and logs.
- Capability to identify problems and assist in their resolution.
- Excellent service orientation towards internal customers.
- Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Basic arithmetic skills for computations involving whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and follow work orders efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and hand-eye coordination.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. No prior work experience is necessary; however, one year of assembly experience is preferred. Mechanical aptitude is essential.
