Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and culturally sensitive individual to serve as a liaison between our hospital operations and the Native American community. As a key member of our team, you will facilitate care according to agreements between UNM Hospitals and the Indian Health Service (IHS) and the All Indian Pueblo Council (AIPC) and others.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate Native American Health Services patient access programs and related services
  • Work with pueblos, tribes, and nations, as well as community-based tribal health center leadership, to facilitate access to UNM Hospitals/UNMHSC and extend health resources to rural communities in New Mexico
  • Represent the organization at various community and/or business meetings, promoting existing and new programs and/or policies
  • Ensure the process of prior authorization and referral verification is adhered to throughout the patient access department
  • Provide leadership through identification of problems and opportunities for improvement, program planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Process priority one referrals by working with Hospitals providers, clinical staff, and referring providers/clinical staff to facilitate patient placement or outpatient services
  • Serve as a liaison for Tribal issues and problem-solving for Native American patients
  • Develop collaborative relationships with other departments/services and community health care agencies, facilitating and supporting quality care in area of clinical expertise
  • Work to eliminate barriers to access to culturally competent medical services for all patients, assisting patients to access community resources, and financial assistance programs and services that are needed
Requirements
  • Associate Degree (Essential)
  • 2 years directly related experience (Essential)
  • Bilingual English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo (Nonessential)
  • 3 years directly related experience (Nonessential)
Working Conditions

  • May be required or is required to perform on-call duties (Essential)
