Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Business Relationship Managers and Systems Architects, offering both technical and functional expertise to provide vision, oversight, and coordination across a portfolio of technical solutions within a specific business capability domain.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate processes and standard practices associated with the high-level design, development, and implementation of solutions across a portfolio of projects and enhancements.
  • Ensure that solutions fulfill business requirements while meeting architecturally significant functional and non-functional criteria.
  • Educate external partners on approved technical solutions and collaborate with them to ensure requirements are satisfied.

Scope of Activities:
The Solutions Architect will demonstrate competencies across four key dimensions:

1. Translating Business Strategy into Solutions Architecture:
  • Understand business drivers and capabilities (both current and future state) to determine corresponding enterprise system designs and necessary changes to achieve targeted business outcomes.
  • Stay informed about emerging technology trends and their practical applications to enable new and evolving business and operating models.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into an architectural blueprint to achieve business objectives, documenting all solution architecture design and analysis work.
  • Analyze the technology landscape, including competitors and market trends, to assess their potential impact on the enterprise.
  • Provide deliverables such as standard definitions, reference models, and architecture designs.
  • Act as a consultant on a wide range of technologies, platforms, and vendor offerings to drive targeted business outcomes.

2. Leading Solutions Design and Analysis:
  • Lead the evaluation, design, and analysis for implementing a solutions architecture across specific business applications or technologies based on enterprise business strategy and requirements.
  • Create architectural designs that guide and contextualize solution development across products, services, projects, and systems.
  • Develop reference architectures focusing on detailed design principles, decision points, APIs, and dependencies between business and IT.
  • Manage and develop architecture for a broader scope of projects, collaborating closely with application architects.
  • Analyze the business-IT environment to identify critical deficiencies and recommend improvement solutions.

3. Orchestrating Solutions Delivery:
  • Design and direct governance activities to ensure compliance with solutions architecture.
  • Define principles, guidelines, standards, and solution patterns to align decisions with the enterprise's future-state architecture vision.
  • Facilitate the evaluation and selection of software product standards and services.
  • Support product managers in decisions regarding the lifecycle of products, services, or systems.
  • Develop a roadmap for the evolution of the enterprise application portfolio.
  • Monitor the current-state solution portfolio to identify deficiencies.
  • Assess the organizational and financial impact of the solutions architecture.

4. Facilitating Collaboration for Business Outcomes:
  • Work closely with the program management office to ensure execution aligns with project promises.
  • Provide consulting support to application architects within agile teams.
  • Consult with application and infrastructure development projects to align systems with architecture.
  • Support a community of practice, guiding agile teams and product owners to align with enterprise architecture governance.

Candidate Skills:
  • Familiarity with SDLC methodologies such as Waterfall, Agile, and DevOps.
  • Knowledge of enterprise technology architecture, including business, information, data, network, and security.
  • Experience with IT service management and ITIL.
  • Extensive experience in Application Development Methodologies and Design Patterns.
  • Expertise in Integration Technologies.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure Technologies, including Cloud computing.
  • Proficiency in frontend and backend development languages.
  • Understanding of various database technologies.
  • Familiarity with modeling languages such as UML.
  • Experience in delivering within IT standards and controls.

Competencies:

  • Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to understand both immediate and long-term perspectives.
  • Organizational savvy with strong business acumen.

Education/Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree with 10+ years of relevant experience, or
  • Graduate degree with 6-8 years of relevant experience.
