Position Overview:
The Automotive Service Consultant is tasked with coordinating service appointments within the service department and actively promoting and selling necessary services to clients.
A professional demeanor is essential.Key Responsibilities:
Maintain customer satisfaction index (CSI) ratings as determined by management.
Adhere to dealership standards for "hours per customer repair order written" and "effective labor rate".
Ensure all documentation, including repair orders and invoices, are properly managed.
Achieve the service goals set by the Service Manager.
Welcome customers promptly and courteously. Gather customer and vehicle information.
Schedule service appointments using the designated systems. Obtain customer authorization on repair orders and provide them with a copy.
Engage with customers to identify the nature of mechanical issues. Educate customers on the importance of adhering to the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule. If additional services are required, clearly explain the details, including costs and timeframes.
Secure necessary approvals and authorization numbers from service contract providers before proceeding with repairs.
Document precise repair instructions on the repair order and initiate vehicle assessments.
Provide customers with accurate estimates for labor and parts.
Detail any special arrangements for vehicle pick-up or delivery on the repair order and transfer this information to the invoice.
Follow up with customers regarding unsold services.
Monitor the progress of each repair order. Inform customers of any changes in estimates or completion timelines. Record any modifications on the repair order.
Handle phone inquiries related to work-in-progress and appointments.
Compare final invoices with original repair orders to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Process cash and credit transactions while maintaining an accurate cash register.
Deliver vehicles to customers and address any questions they may have.
Keep service department documentation, including Quick Pricing Guides and Multi-Point Inspection forms, current.
Complete training as directed by management.
Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Minimum of one year in vehicle repair or a related field. General understanding of vehicle mechanical systems.
Skills:
Excellent communication and customer service abilities. Proficient in reading and understanding instructions and information. Competent in using personal computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheet software. Valid driver's license required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
The work environment is typically noisy. Occasionally requires bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, and handling tools. May require lifting materials weighing up to 20 pounds. Frequently works near moving mechanical components.
Exposure to battery acid, gasoline, chemical cleaning agents, or other hazardous materials commonly found in automotive service environments.
