Medical Laboratory Specialist Job Description

As a Medical Laboratory Specialist with the U.S. Army, you will play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of Soldiers. Your responsibilities will include collecting samples from patients, performing chemical and biological tests, and maintaining laboratory equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform elementary blood banking and clinical laboratory procedures in hematology, immunohematology, clinical chemistry, serology, bacteriology, parasitology, and urinalysis
  • Collect blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary puncture
  • Pack, unpack, inspect, store, and distribute blood and blood products
  • Assemble, disassemble, and maintain laboratory equipment
Requirements:
  • Be between the ages of 17–40
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Submit to background and medical screening
  • Receive a passing score on the ASVAB
Training:

Job training for a Medical Laboratory Specialist requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 52 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including practice-testing specimens.
