About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Law Specialist to join our team at the Internal Revenue Service. As a Tax Law Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting independent examinations of complex estate and gift returns, analyzing transactions, and evaluating the fair market value of financial and investment assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of tax laws, regulations, and judicial decisions to determine tax liability
  • Develop and implement audit techniques, legal arguments, and litigation strategy for significant cases
  • Collaborate with SBSE Counsel employees and IRS Office of Chief Counsel to develop examination requirements and analysis
  • Assist in trial preparation for estate and gift tax cases of significant importance
  • Contribute to program objectives by identifying emerging issues and requesting SBSE Counsel collaboration
Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must have a strong understanding of federal tax laws, regulations, and judicial decisions. You must also have experience working in a legal environment, providing technical advice and guidance on tax law requirements, conducting legal research and analysis, and drafting written opinions and decisions.

Additionally, you must have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You must also be able to communicate complex tax concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
