Job Summary

The Academic and Career Advisor will play a pivotal role in providing holistic, high-quality, and culturally responsive academic and career success advising/coaching to students. This position will engage students in an intentional process that values their strengths and cultural wealth, advancing their personal, academic, and professional goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of advisees on academic and career-related topics, including degree requirements, major and career exploration, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate programs and services to facilitate the development of an academic and professional plan that enhances students' academic experience and career-readiness skills.
  • Serve as a liaison to faculty and staff, providing resources and referrals to various University services.
  • Collaborate with the advising and career advising team to provide office coverage and coordinate departmental activities.
Academic and Career Programming
  • Present engaging workshops and programs to enhance students' knowledge and development of career-readiness skills.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Academic and Career Programming to develop content for workshops and presentations on topics such as major and career exploration, advising and registration, and experiential learning.
  • Implement equity-based programming grounded on the interpretation of data and metrics from internal institutional and external sources.
Assessment, Data, and Engagement
  • Maintain up-to-date notes and record keeping of each student meeting, tracking student academic progress and outcomes.
  • Utilize qualitative and quantitative data to make informed recommendations for new or modified programs and services.
  • Participate in unit assessment efforts, including the development of benchmarks for progress.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and at least two years of direct student service experience.
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Higher Education, or Human Development preferred.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations and knowledge of current academic student development and career development theory, research, and practice.
