Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner at St. Luke's Corporation practices medicine in a clinic or hospital setting, working under the direction and responsible supervision of a Licensed Physician. This role involves collaborating with a physician to assess the physical needs of patients admitted to the hospital.

The Nurse Practitioner orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to the physician. They also prescribe medications and make recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Additionally, the Nurse Practitioner coordinates referrals for specialty care or social service support.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Experience working in an inpatient setting as an RN or NP.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with the appropriate Minnesota State licensing agency.
  • Certified or eligible for certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a national professional nursing organization as a CNP in Family Medicine.
  • Maintenance of the continuing medical education requirements of a nursing national professional organization.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Nurse Practitioner in Wisconsin may be required.
  • ACLS Certification with a designation of either ACLS Provider or Healthcare Provider from either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or Military Training Network within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience working as an APC in an inpatient setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The Nurse Practitioner role demands intelligence, sound judgment, intellectual honesty, and the ability to relate effectively to people and the capacity to react to emergencies in a calm and reasoned manner.

Requires an attitude of respect for self and others. Requires adherence to the current practice standards for Nurse Practitioners, the concepts of privilege and confidentiality in communicating with patients, and a commitment to the patients' welfare.

Able to work collaboratively with the supervising Physician. Well-developed listening and interviewing skills. Able to establish and maintain harmonious and cooperative working relationships with other people. Able to effectively teach health promotion and disease prevention behaviors to patients and families.

Demonstrated skills in independent decision making, management of minor acute illness and chronic health problems, and in performing medical history taking and routine physical examinations.

Knowledge of the physiological, psychological, social, and spiritual influences on the patients' physical condition.
