Emergency Department Nurse Practitioner

Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner plays a vital role in the healthcare team at St. Luke's, providing high-quality patient care in the emergency department. This dynamic professional evaluates and monitors patient health status, performs diagnostic and therapeutic services, and educates patients and families on disease prevention and health maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and monitor patient health status, performing diagnostic and therapeutic services as needed.
- Provide age-appropriate education and counseling to patients and families on disease prevention and health maintenance.
- Coordinate referrals for specialty care or social service support as necessary.
- Work collaboratively with the supervising physician to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Develop and maintain harmonious and cooperative working relationships with other healthcare professionals.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure with the appropriate Minnesota State licensing agency.
- Certified or eligible for certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a national professional nursing organization.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the supervising physician and other healthcare professionals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an emergency department or acute care setting.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification.
Physical Demands and Environment
The Nurse Practitioner role demands intelligence, sound judgment, and the ability to relate effectively to people and react to emergencies in a calm and reasoned manner. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make independent decisions is essential. The Nurse Practitioner must be able to lift up to 35 pounds and stand for long periods.
Work Environment
The Nurse Practitioner will work in a moderate noise level environment, regularly exposed to risk of blood-borne diseases. May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to unpleasant patient elements.
