Job Description

At Staples, we're committed to delivering exceptional financial performance and driving business growth. As a Senior Accountant, you'll play a critical role in achieving this goal by providing expert accounting support and guidance to our teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the month-end close process for the lease accounting area, ensuring accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Prepare month-end reconciliations for all lease liability and right-of-use asset accounts, identifying and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Review and analyze month-end reconciliations prepared by our off-shore accounting team, providing feedback and guidance as needed.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the lease accounting area, providing training and support to colleagues.
  • Support the annual budget and monthly forecasts for all lease-related accounts, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Provide reporting and documentation to business partners and senior management, highlighting key financial trends and insights.
  • Participate in SOX compliance, ensuring our financial processes and controls meet the highest standards.
  • Make recommendations for process improvements, streamlining our accounting operations and enhancing efficiency.
  • Perform and oversee special projects and ad hoc analysis as needed, leveraging your expertise to drive business outcomes.
  • Work closely with our external auditors, preparing and reviewing schedules for their testing, ensuring a smooth audit process.
  • Partner with real estate lease administration, legal, and other business groups to ensure timely and accurate lease accounting information.

Requirements:
  • 2-5 years of accounting experience, with a strong background in lease accounting.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Oracle financial systems.
  • CPA certification or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Experience in a Public Accounting setting, with a strong understanding of financial regulations and compliance.
