Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Inspector to join our team at the Village of Oak Park Illinois. As a Building Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring that all buildings and structures within the village meet the required building codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-site inspections of residential and commercial buildings to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Review building plans and specifications to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Issue permits and certificates of occupancy as required.
  • Enforce building codes and regulations through education and enforcement.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and builders to resolve code-related issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections and enforcement activities.
Requirements
  • Two years of increasingly responsible journey-level experience in building inspections and/or review of building plans.
  • Two years of college-level or trade school coursework in building construction, electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire, appropriate International Code Council certifications.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as an inspector with a municipality.
  • Additional specialized training in construction technology, building inspection technology, or related field.
  • ICC Master Code Professional certification.
Working Conditions

Travel from site to site in residential or commercial environments; work in inclement weather conditions; significant walking on a daily basis.
