Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HVAC Supervisor to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the maintenance and repair of our facilities' HVAC systems, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of maintenance staff in the daily operations of HVAC systems, including fan coil units, large air handlers, and associated components and controls.
  • Provide leadership and direction for maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of chilled water, hydronic heating, and domestic cold-water systems, including pumps, motors, variable frequency drives, heat exchangers, valves, and steel and copper piping.
  • Inspect, maintain, repair, replace, and install low-pressure steam systems and their associated components and controls, including mechanical, pneumatic, and digital controls.
  • Manage and maintain pneumatic and direct digital control systems and their associated components, as well as the web-based building automation system.
  • Advise and collaborate on various facility initiatives and projects, including capital and minor construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, providing information and education to staff members as needed.
  • Supervise staff and manage general administrative duties, including recruitment, training, and evaluation of full-time staff.
Requirements
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in a recognized trade and relevant experience, or a high school diploma or equivalent and five years of relevant experience.
  • Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  • Eight years of experience and general working knowledge of HVAC systems, including steam principles, proper steam piping system components, and design.
  • Knowledge of Automated Logic controllers, Belimo actuators, and valves.
  • Working knowledge of Florida state building codes and other relevant codes and standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and basic software applications, including work order management systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient in the use of WebCTRL, WebTMA, AutoCAD, and Revit.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and ability to communicate with various levels of staff.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, and timeliness.
  • Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills.
Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Frequently reaching above shoulders.
  • Repeated bending, kneeling, pulling, and pushing.
  • Operating mechanical and electrically powered equipment.
  • Working in confined spaces, dusty conditions, and/or heat for extended periods.
