Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is currently seeking Management Trainees who will engage in comprehensive training across various roles to prepare for managing shifts or operational areas within a service center. Upon completing hands-on training in each department, the trainee will assume supervisory responsibilities across different shifts and areas. The trainee will focus on managing a shift while prioritizing safety, quality, efficiency, service, and delivery. Additionally, the trainee will undertake assignments while being evaluated through knowledge assessments, written reports, management training videos, and recommendations for operational improvements. Participation in the Old Dominion Truck Driving Training program to obtain a CDL license, as well as forklift training and management courses, is also included.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete shift manager training under the guidance of an experienced manager or supervisor.
  • Engage in forklift job training and practical exercises across all roles within the service center.
  • Participate in the Old Dominion Truck Driving Training program to secure a CDL license.
  • Act as a supervisor across various shifts and departments.
  • Complete knowledge assessments for departments/areas and contribute to the development of new indicators and procedural changes.
  • Utilize AS400 for freight management and maintain records of efficiency, quality, costs, and service metrics.
  • Use Workday as necessary to update payroll and employee records.
  • Prepare and submit monthly activity reports.
  • Delegate tasks to employees based on the daily schedule.
  • Make informed decisions quickly based on volume levels and communicate schedules to affected staff.
  • Inspect tools and equipment for safe operation and address any unsafe conditions.
  • Travel approximately 15% to other service centers to learn operations and supervise in diverse environments.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required.
  • Proficient in computer software (WORD, EXCEL); AS400 experience is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Consistent work history (if applicable).
  • Professional appearance is essential.
  • Willingness to relocate upon completion of the trainee program is required.

Compensation Overview:

The salary range provided reflects the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.

$54,615 - $68,269
