POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Machining Specialist at Southern States, LLC is responsible for analyzing specifications, laying out metal stock, setting up and operating both manual and CNC machine tools, and fitting and assembling components to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION:
  • Interprets specifications such as blueprints and sketches to determine necessary materials and machining processes.
  • Calculates dimensions, plans layouts, and establishes assembly methods and sequences.
  • Measures and marks metal stock for machining processes.
  • Sets up and operates multiple manual and CNC machine tools, ensuring machined parts meet specifications.
  • Proficient in CNC G-Code programming and capable of writing and editing advanced CNC programs.
  • Handles machined parts, positioning and securing them using various devices.
  • Utilizes power grinders to smooth surfaces and assembles parts into mechanisms.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignments.
  • Conducts heat treatment of tools or components.
  • Reviews existing dies, tools, and fixtures, recommending design improvements.
  • Creates specifications for specialty tools based on general descriptions.
  • Assists in leading and scheduling tasks within the Tool Room.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • EDUCATION: A two-year machine tool/machinist certificate from a college or technical school, along with over five years of relevant Tool & Die experience; or six to eight years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Proficiency in converting decimal and fractional dimensions, performing basic arithmetic operations, and utilizing advanced machinist handbook formulas.
