We are seeking a highly skilled Associate Engineer to join our team at the City of San Jose, CA. As a key member of our Public Works Department, you will play a critical role in delivering capital improvement projects, maintaining city facilities and fleet assets, and facilitating development activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, review, and manage projects, including capital improvement projects, private development projects, and other engineering-related projects.
  • Prepare and review designs, improvement plans, estimates, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Manage projects, including overseeing, controlling, and guiding the project.
  • Negotiate, prepare, and manage consultant agreements and/or construction contracts.
  • Supervise staff, including prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring staff is trained.
  • Interface with the public, consultants, contractors, other City departments/sections, and other agencies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the required professional engineering discipline or possession of an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience.
  • Acceptable substitution: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in the required professional engineering discipline may be substituted for one year of professional engineering experience.
  • State of California driver's license required.
