Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Respiratory Care Assistant to join our team at WellSpan Health. As a Respiratory Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our respiratory therapy department, ensuring the smooth operation of our services and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule appointments and verify medical necessity information
  • Plan available time for oxygen cylinder delivery, restock supplies, and coordinate patient billing
  • Identify and implement appropriate activities, observations, and actions to achieve expected outcomes and goals
  • Act as a resource for supplies, required paperwork, meeting minutes, and typing of policies and procedures
  • Answer telephone calls, respond or refer as necessary, and take complete phone messages
  • Maintain a neat and clean workroom and supply cabinets, and communicate housekeeping needs as appropriate
  • Produce documents that are clean and professionally formatted, portraying a positive visual image of the department and its concern for quality
  • Review available supplies and equipment daily, reorder supplies as needed, and utilize supplies in an economical manner
  • Schedule appointments for various tests within the department
  • Complete check-in process for all patients, print face sheets, review medication lists, obtain signed consent, and collect vital signs
  • Perform Alpha-1 testing as directed by pulmonary function specialists
  • Collect and provide information to the Registration Desk to register patients for Respiratory Care/Pulmonary Rehab
  • File departmental correspondence, forms, and other documents per file maintenance plan
  • Document continuing education information as per format on departmental records within two days following training
  • Complete daily oxygen rounds
Requirements
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Course work in medical terminology preferred
  • Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required
  • Six months of clerical experience in a healthcare setting, utilizing telephone, keyboarding, and numerical skills required
  • Knowledge of Windows-based programs and Microsoft preferred
  • Keyboarding proficiency preferred
  • Previous experience in an acute healthcare facility preferred
