Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Shop Technician to join our team at SCAD - Savannah College of Art and Design. As a Shop Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our production shop, providing technical support and guidance to students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the shop's inventory and supplies, ensuring that students have access to the resources they need to complete their projects.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to students, faculty, and staff, including training on the use of shop equipment and techniques.
  • Maintain the safety, functionality, and cleanliness of the shop equipment and facilities.
  • Assist with the loading, unloading, and processing of delivered materials and equipment.
  • Provide required data to the shop manager, including up-to-date inventories, late return fines, and headcount data.
  • Identify and develop solutions to improve shop functionality and efficiencies.
  • Attend all shop meetings and university-sponsored safety and security training sessions.
  • Provide backup operations support during times of high demand.
Requirements
  • High school diploma and experience in scenic carpentry, set construction, film, and performing arts.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and a commitment to promoting a safe working environment for students and staff members.
  • Strong work ethic and high standards in quality of work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in production design or technology.
  • Experience in welding, scenic carpentry, set construction, film, and performing arts, especially in an academic environment.

This is a full-time position, and the university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
