Role Summary
The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for fostering a secure environment for students, staff, faculty, and visitors. This role is integral in supporting the educational mission of the college through comprehensive safety, security, and law enforcement services. The ideal candidate will consistently aim to meet the evolving needs of the college community.
Key Responsibilities
1. Uphold strict confidentiality regarding all campus-related information, regardless of its source or nature.
2. Employ various technologies, including computers, radio communication systems, and telephones, to enhance operational efficiency.
3. Supervise and coordinate staff in routine patrols, traffic regulation, and investigative duties.
4. Exhibit outstanding communication and negotiation skills to balance law enforcement duties with public service for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
5. Enforce applicable laws at both the state and federal levels.
6. Respond effectively to emergencies, medical situations, and other urgent matters.
7. Contribute positively to the college's Vision, Mission, Values, and Welcoming College statement.
8. Promote diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the workplace.
9. Execute additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent; relevant degrees are preferred.
2. Must fulfill the criteria to become a sworn Police Officer in North Carolina.
3. Possession of an NC Basic Law Enforcement Certificate (or equivalent certification from another state, with the requirement to obtain NC General Certification within one year of employment), or NC LEO Probationary Certification or NC LEO General Certification.
4. Valid NC Driver's License (or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment).
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience with a North Carolina law enforcement agency and current North Carolina Probationary Law Enforcement Certification (N11).
2. Two years of full-time experience with a North Carolina law enforcement agency and current General Law Enforcement Certification (N12).
3. An Associate's Degree or higher level of education.
4. CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or EMT Certification.
5. Proficiency in a foreign language, such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, or American Sign Language.
