This position is responsible for delivering essential services to children with blindness and visual impairments, along with their families, through direct skills training, parental guidance, and case management aimed at enhancing the child's independence and encouraging vocational exploration and growth.
Individuals in this role will provide direct services and manage a caseload within a specified area, collaborating with community and educational partners to help each child achieve their unique objectives.
Work is conducted under general supervision, with significant mentoring provided, allowing for some degree of initiative and independent decision-making.
Additionally, employees may offer training and mentorship to fellow specialists and are expected to perform related tasks as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and document high-quality services for children and families. 35%
- Deliver exceptional direct skills training services to children, families, external partners, and staff. 30%
- Ensure adherence to program policies, procedures, and quality assurance standards. 25%
- Engage in professional development to further the mission and services of the program. 10%
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of child development principles.
- Familiarity with the psychological, social, and pre-vocational challenges faced by children with visual impairments.
- Knowledge of counseling techniques relevant to children with disabilities.
- Awareness of resources available for children with visual disabilities.
- Proficiency in managing caseloads based on objectives.
- Competence in maintaining reports and records.
- Skill in using personal computers, including familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to assess and provide suitable counseling and guidance in line with established program plans.
- Capability to develop individualized program plans with children and families based on diagnostic and evaluative information.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to convey ideas, instructions, and reports clearly.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, departmental staff, agency personnel, and external organizations.
- Organizational skills to plan, coordinate, and review essential functions for optimal outcomes.
- Basic mathematical skills to perform calculations and interpret data.
