Child Development and Education Support Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated Child Development and Education Support Specialist to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about working with school-age children and providing a safe, fun, and engaging environment for them to grow and develop.
The successful candidate will assist in the planning, development, and implementation of daily lesson plans, ensuring that children are stimulated and challenged throughout their time with us. A key aspect of this role is maintaining open communication with parents, providing regular updates on their child's activities and progress.
Responsibilities:- Assist in developing and leading daily lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of children
- Prepare materials and resources necessary for daily activities, ensuring a stimulating and engaging environment
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, arrival, and departure times, as well as participant activity data
- Provide weekly lesson plans to parents, keeping them informed of their child's progress and activities
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding individual activities, promoting a sense of community and transparency
- Maintain supervision of children at all times, prioritizing their safety and well-being
- Collaborate with the Site Supervisor to facilitate parent-teacher conferences as needed, ensuring open lines of communication between families and educators
- Maintain the quality and quantity of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom, ensuring a functional and effective learning environment
- Six months to one year of experience in youth development or a related field; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Able to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles
- Ability and desire to work with school-age children
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required within the first 60 days
- First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
- AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days
- State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)

$14.62 - $18.28 per hour; Non-Exempt, Part-time (up to 25 hours/week); plus a $2/hour shift premium for staff who work both before school program hours and after school program hours in the same day
