Key Responsibilities

The Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for coordinating and delivering high-quality, patient-focused respiratory care in alignment with departmental needs and consistent with the standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As an integral member of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs various diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures while monitoring patients on both invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

Key Duties Include:

  • Conducting and documenting patient assessments, including breath sounds, airway integrity, and cuff pressure. Performing diagnostic procedures to assess the necessity for and response to respiratory therapy.
  • Administering respiratory care treatments, including oxygen therapy, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
  • Assisting with the placement of artificial airways and managing mechanical ventilation.
  • Monitoring patients for therapeutic responses and notifying providers while intervening as necessary in case of adverse reactions.
  • Assisting in the transport of patients requiring ventilatory support.
  • Responding to emergency situations and ensuring airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation efforts as required.
Qualifications
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Neonate Resuscitation certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT / RCP) license issued by the Texas Medical Board.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist license issued by the NBRC.
  • Associate Degree preferred.
