Job Overview:

In collaboration with a licensed Psychologist or board-certified Psychiatrist, the role involves delivering mental health evaluations, diagnoses, therapeutic interventions, and crisis management for both adult and child patients presenting with diverse mental health challenges. This position may include working alongside primary care providers and a multidisciplinary team to tailor and oversee each patient's treatment plan.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Under the guidance of a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist, formulates, executes, coordinates, and assesses clinical treatment strategies for Health Plan members experiencing acute or chronic mental health issues. Engages in team meetings to select, strategize, and appraise treatment initiatives. Provides outpatient therapy to individuals, couples, families, and groups. Educates and advises patients and their families on adherence to prescribed therapeutic and medication regimens, within the professional scope. May perform specialized therapeutic techniques as necessary. Offers essential support to the patient's family. May design and facilitate psychoeducational workshops and group sessions.
  • May carry out psychological evaluations, including administering tests, interpreting results, and making recommendations. Prepares intake reports, treatment outlines, and case summaries while maintaining confidential records. Documents patient treatment and progress in compliance with state regulations and accepted community standards.
  • Collaborates with medical professionals in assessing and determining the need for psychotropic medications, within the scope of practice. Leverages resources from public and private organizations to address the treatment needs of members. May develop, implement, and assess behavioral health and health psychology programs across various environments, including primary care. Provides consultation to other healthcare providers and educators regarding mental health, health psychology, and behavioral medicine. Offers clinical supervision to psychology interns, postdoctoral residents, and other mental health trainees as needed.
  • Engages in discussions with supervisors regarding patient progress and treatment, and may consult with psychiatrists involved in the patient's care.
  • May provide necessary support to the patient's family, including clarifying treatment processes, guiding how to support treatment, and strategies to enhance acceptance and adherence to treatment, upon request.
  • Utilizes resources from public and private agencies to meet the treatment needs of members, including referrals to external resources when appropriate. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental programs.
  • Reports any safety concerns to mandated reporting entities.

Qualifications: Experience
  • Completion of a psychology doctoral internship - minimum of 1 year (1500 hours).
Education
  • PhD/PsyD/EdD in Clinical, Counseling, Health, or School Psychology from an accredited institution.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Psychologist License (California) within 24 months of hire
  • Psychological Assistant Registration (California) required at hire
Additional Requirements:
  • Upon hiring as an Assistant, the employee must work a schedule that allows for the accumulation of at least half the required supervisory hours annually.
  • Familiarity with DSM-V for diagnostic purposes.
  • Experience in assessing, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions.
  • Knowledge of Evidence-Based Practices and psychotherapy research methodologies.
  • Understanding of the bio-psycho-social factors influencing mental health.
  • Precision in diagnosing patients and formulating effective treatment plans.
  • Competence in individual, family, and group therapy.
  • Professional maturity and ethical integrity essential for fulfilling professional responsibilities.
  • Commitment to high-quality service, teamwork, and engagement in a collaborative multidisciplinary clinic.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and objectives efficiently.
  • Familiarity with social service agencies, state regulations, and APA standards regarding client treatment, patient rights, and confidentiality.
  • Prior clinical responsibilities should include psychological testing, diagnosis, crisis intervention, and brief individual and group therapy.
  • Knowledge of psychological testing methods, administration, and interpretation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work within a Labor/Management Partnership.
  • Must obtain state licensure within two (2) years after completing supervised hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior clinical experience in crisis intervention, individual and group therapy.
  • Demonstrated experience in psychological evaluations for adults, children, adolescents, and families, including administering and documenting psychological assessments.
  • Demonstrated professional maturity and ethical integrity necessary for assuming professional responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality service, teamwork, and participation in a collaborative multidisciplinary clinic.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and objectives efficiently.
  • Accuracy in diagnosing patients and developing effective treatment plans.
  • Competence in individual, family, and group therapy.
