Job Overview:

In collaboration with a licensed Psychologist or board-certified Psychiatrist, the role involves delivering mental health evaluations, diagnoses, therapeutic interventions, and crisis management services for both adult and child patients presenting a diverse array of mental health challenges. This position may also entail working alongside primary care providers and other health professionals to design and oversee tailored treatment plans for each patient.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Under the guidance of a licensed psychologist or board-certified psychiatrist, formulates, executes, coordinates, and assesses clinical treatment strategies for Health Plan members experiencing acute or chronic mental health issues. Engages in team meetings to select, plan, and appraise treatment methodologies. Provides outpatient therapy to individuals, couples, families, and groups. Educates and advises patients and their families on adherence to therapeutic protocols and prescribed medications, within the defined scope of practice. May carry out specialized therapeutic techniques as needed. Offers necessary support to the patient's family. May create and facilitate psychoeducational sessions and groups.
  • May perform psychological evaluations, including the administration and interpretation of tests, along with formulating recommendations. Compiles intake reports, treatment outlines, and case documentation while maintaining confidential records. Documents patient treatment and progress in accordance with state regulations and accepted community standards.
  • Collaborates with medical professionals in assessing and evaluating patients for psychotropic medication, within the defined scope of practice. Leverages resources from public and private entities and community organizations to address the treatment needs of members. May develop, implement, and assess behavioral health and health psychology initiatives across various settings, including primary care. Provides expert consultation to other healthcare providers and educators regarding mental health, health psychology, and behavioral medicine. Offers clinical supervision to psychology interns, postdoctoral residents, and other mental health trainees as required.
  • Engages in discussions and consultations with supervisors regarding patient progress and treatment plans, and may consult with psychiatrists when both are involved in the patient's care.
  • May provide necessary support to the patient's family, including treatment explanations, guidance on how to support treatment, and strategies to enhance acceptance and adherence to the treatment plan, at the patient's request.
  • Utilizes resources from public and private agencies and community organizations to fulfill the treatment needs of members, including referrals to external resources as appropriate. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental programs.
  • Reports any safety concerns to the mandated reporting agencies.

Basic Qualifications: Experience
  • Completion of a psychology doctoral internship - minimum of 1 year (1500 hours).
Education
  • PhD/PsyD/EdD in Clinical, Counseling, Health, or School Psychology from an accredited institution.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Psychologist License (California) within 24 months of hire
  • Psychological Assistant Registration (California) required at hire
Additional Requirements:
  • Upon hiring as an Assistant, the employee will be expected to work a schedule that allows for the accumulation of at least half the required supervisory hours annually.
  • Familiarity with DSM-V for diagnostic purposes is essential.
  • Experience in assessing, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions is required.
  • Knowledge of Evidence-Based Practices and psychotherapy research methodologies is necessary.
  • Understanding of the bio-psycho-social factors influencing mental health is important.
  • Precision in diagnosing patients and formulating effective treatment strategies is crucial.
  • Competence in individual, family, and group therapy is required.
  • Professional maturity and ethical integrity are essential for fulfilling professional responsibilities.
  • Commitment to service quality, teamwork, and active participation in a multidisciplinary clinic is expected.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and objectives efficiently is necessary.
  • Knowledge of social service agencies, state regulations, and APA standards concerning client treatment, patient rights, and confidentiality is required.
  • Prior clinical responsibilities should include psychological testing, diagnosis, crisis intervention, and brief individual and group therapy.
  • Familiarity with psychological testing techniques, administration, and interpretation is necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work within a Labor/Management Partnership is required.
  • After completing supervised hours, the employee must obtain state licensure within two (2) years.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior clinical responsibilities should include crisis intervention, individual and group therapy.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting psychological evaluations for adults, children, adolescents, and families, including administering and documenting psychological testing and assessment batteries is preferred.
  • Demonstrated professional maturity and ethical integrity necessary for assuming professional responsibilities is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service quality, teamwork, and active participation in a multidisciplinary clinic is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and objectives efficiently is preferred.
  • Accuracy in diagnosing patients and formulating effective treatment strategies is preferred.
  • Competence in individual, family, and group therapy is preferred.
