Role Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant I plays a crucial role in providing both clinical and administrative assistance to healthcare providers and team members within an outpatient clinic environment. This position operates under the clinical oversight of healthcare providers for patient care tasks and under the general guidance of the assigned manager for administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conducts patient intake and rooming processes, gathering essential data such as vital signs, height, weight, and the reason for the visit.
2. Collects comprehensive medical and social histories from patients and their families.
3. Reviews and updates the patient's medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy information.
4. Supports healthcare providers during examinations, treatments, and procedures as needed.
5. Collects specimens and performs blood draws (phlebotomy).
6. Administers medications under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
7. Conducts diagnostic tests, such as EKGs and eye examinations, as directed by a provider.
8. Reviews patient records to identify the need for routine health screenings.
9. Ensures that examination and procedure rooms are well-stocked with necessary supplies, equipment, and educational materials.
10. Provides patients with after-visit instructions, follow-up care guidance, and educational resources as directed.
11. Prepares, cleans, and maintains examination and treatment areas.
12. Sterilizes medical instruments as required.
13. Assists with patient registration, check-in/check-out processes, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
14. Answers clinic phone calls and manages in-basket communications under the direction of a provider or nurse.
15. Responds to emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.


Additional Information

Education Requirements:
● High school diploma or GED is required.
● Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program is preferred but not mandatory.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Certification as a Medical Assistant from recognized organizations is required.
● Basic Life Support Certification from a recognized provider is mandatory.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Previous experience as a medical assistant or in a medical assistant externship is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Ability to perform essential job functions as outlined.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to engage positively with patients and families and collaborate effectively with team members.
● Proficiency in using electronic medical records for documentation.
