Marine Engineer Leader

We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Engineer Leader to join our team at Thornton Tomasetti. As a Marine Engineer Leader, you will be responsible for leading investigations in the seaport and waterfront-built environment, industrial facilities, marine infrastructure, transportation sector, and high-tech applications.
Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in marine engineering, with experience in marine forensic investigation, litigation support, risk loss consulting, repair, and retrofit design. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse multidisciplinary team, ranging from entry-level engineers to senior management.
As a Marine Engineer Leader, you will be responsible for managing projects independently and supporting engineers in the Forensics practice on projects as needed. You will also have the opportunity to participate in business development activities, such as conferences and business development events.

- Mooring, Towing, and Anchoring Analyses
- Hull Damage Assessments and Repair Plans
- Dry Dock, Graving Dock, and Ship Lift
- Vessel Marine Casualty or Accident Investigation
- Structural and Material Failure Analysis
- Mechanical Failure Analysis
- Naval Architecture
- Equipment Breakdown
- Root Cause Analysis
- Equipment Damage Assessment
- Equipment Loss Consulting and Mitigation
- Fire Protection and Detection Systems
As a Marine Engineer Leader, you will have the opportunity to work directly with a wide variety of clients, including attorneys, vessel and seaport and terminal property owners, contractors, and insurance professionals. You may also be called to serve as an expert witness in various scenarios, including depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
Qualifications for this role include:
- Bachelor's degree in maritime or naval engineering
- Master's degree in related field preferred
- 12+ years of experience in the Maritime and Naval field
- Marine and Naval Architecture Professional Engineering (PE) License in at least one jurisdiction and the ability to obtain licensure in others
- Ability to bring or develop a book of business
- Ability to write reports that clearly express engineering opinions and conclusions and support these conclusions/opinions with facts and sound engineering principles
- Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines, meet deadlines, and travel to work sites
Compensation for this role is competitive and based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications, and experience, work location, and comparison to employees already in the role.
