About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our Consumer Finance team at Goldman Sachs. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing strategies to drive business growth while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice on servicing and collections strategies to drive business growth while minimizing risk.
  • Conduct research on federal, state, and local laws related to servicing and collections to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and review customer communication templates to ensure clarity and accuracy.
  • Review consumer complaints with legal and regulatory implications and assist in developing responses.
  • Review call center agent procedures and training materials for compliance with applicable law.
  • Monitor state and federal consumer finance developments with a focus on servicing and collections.
  • Assist business teams with filings in response to consumer and small business bankruptcy processes.
  • Assist in the negotiation and management of key vendor relationships.
  • Assist in the development and management of regulatory disclosures.
  • Collaborate with Compliance colleagues to facilitate remediation activities.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local consumer finance laws and regulations, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and state corollaries.
  • Experience drafting consumer communications and responding to consumer complaints.
  • Experience reviewing call center procedures, training, and call scripts.
  • Knowledge of consent orders related to servicing and collections and formulating strategy changes in response.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a leading law firm or financial institution.
  • Strong analytical and commercial judgment skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational/project management skills.
  • Superb oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of initiative, integrity, and organization.
