Role Overview:
As a Senior Staff Engineer in the Observability domain, you will engage with extensive cloud infrastructure, managing vast amounts of metrics and logs. Your role will involve utilizing this data to assist internal teams in monitoring service reliability and proactively addressing potential incidents. You will have the chance to develop the next-generation Observability Platform utilizing Kubernetes and other open-source solutions, as well as creating software components from the ground up. Collaborating with various engineering teams, you will influence them with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and best practices, witnessing the direct impact of your contributions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain observability solutions encompassing monitoring, alerting, logging, and tracing across diverse platforms and infrastructures.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including software engineers and infrastructure specialists, to define observability requirements.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for effective monitoring, alerting, and telemetry systems.
  • Assess and recommend leading observability tools and technologies to enhance system visibility and reliability.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and service-level objectives (SLOs) concerning system availability and performance.
  • Assist in troubleshooting complex incidents by analyzing data from observability tools.
  • Provide mentorship to fellow engineers on observability principles and tools.
  • Continuously evaluate observability systems, identifying opportunities for enhancements and optimizations.
  • Drive the standardization of observability processes and tools across the organization.
  • Contribute to the creation of training materials and documentation for observability practices.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Extensive experience in implementing observability solutions in large-scale environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of monitoring and logging systems, such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Elastic Stack.
  • Familiarity with distributed tracing technologies.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps and SRE methodologies.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python or Bash.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across diverse teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • A proven history of leading successful observability initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies.
  • Familiarity with application performance management tools.

Compensation and Benefits:
Our compensation reflects the labor market across various regions. The base pay for this position varies based on geographic location and ranges from $159,000 to $324,000 annually. Additional compensation may include bonuses or equity.
