Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Certified Professional Coder to join our team at the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for extracting relevant information from patient records and assigning accurate ICD-10 and CPT codes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Utilize Aprima and Electronic Health Record (EHR) functionality to complete tasks, including basic Clinical Application Coordinator (CAC) tasks.
  2. Maintain a specialized knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS Coding Procedures, as well as Medicare and Medicaid Policies and Procedures.
  3. Lead the implementation of ICD-10 Coding to ensure compliance with National Billing Standards.
  4. Ensure accuracy and consistency of patient documentation to facilitate correct coding of visits.
  5. Collaborate with supervisors and providers to address incomplete or inaccurate documentation.
  6. Assist in researching assignments to maximize reimbursement.
  7. Review patient visits to ensure accuracy and consistency in visit documentation.
  8. Collect and review data to identify deficient or non-compliant data.
  9. Assist in verifying, analyzing, solving, and preventing problems impacting patient care.
  10. Maintain confidentiality and appreciate cultural differences in healthcare delivery.
  11. Participate in process improvements and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Professional Coder Certification (Outpatient Coding).
  • One or more years' experience coding.
  • Specialized knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS Coding Procedures; Medicare & Medicaid Policies & Regulations.
  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder), or CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based) certification.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint programs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and build positive relationships with staff and departments.
  • Pass drug and alcohol testing, education, character, and criminal background checks.
  • Able and willing to travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in registered health information technician or related degree.
  • Valid driver's license and be insurable.
  • CCS-P (Certified Coder Specialist-Physician based) certification.
  • Knowledge of Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine--Clinical Terms (SNOMED) terminology.
  • One year of experience with EHR (Electronic Heath Records).
  • One year of experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.
  • Knowledge of Public Law 93-638; Public Law and Privacy Act of 1974, HIPAA.

Preference will be given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe. However, all qualified individuals are eligible.
