Job Summary:
The EHS Safety Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing programs that comply with federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations. This includes investigating all safety and occupational health-related injuries and incidents, implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence, and maintaining a current working knowledge of EHS regulations and their impact on business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor Employee Exposure: Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Implement Machine Guarding: Understand and implement machine guarding where necessary, preventing accidents and injuries.
- Develop Remedial Actions: Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met by employees, promoting a culture of safety.
- Inspect Facilities and Equipment: Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Complete Safety Observations: Complete and maintain documented safety observations from regular hazard identification audits, tracking progress and identifying areas for improvement.
- Investigate Industrial Accidents: Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root causes, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
- Develop Safety Contingency Plans: Develop, implement, and maintain safety contingency plans for fires, spills, and other potential hazards.
- Perform Environmental Compliance Audits: Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies.
- Maintain Recordkeeping: Maintain recordkeeping and compliance requirements established for permitted sources defined by the local AQMD.
- Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste Management: Responsible for hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, including DOT regulations.
- Maintain Compliance: Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.
Requirements:
- Experience in Emergency Management: Experience with emergency management practices, including response and recovery.
- EHS Compliance Experience: Experience in the implementation of programs for EHS federal and California regulatory compliance.
- EHS Policy Development: Experience in the development of EHS policies, standards, and procedures.
- Hazard and Risk Identification: Experience in hazard and risk identification and analysis.
- Computer Skills: Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, required.
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering or related field.
- Experience: 5-10 years of EH&S experience in a chemical manufacturing environment preferred.
