Survey Party Chief

The Survey Party Chief position at EMC Engineering Services provides front-line supervisory guidance to survey field crews while performing preliminary, construction, boundary, and control surveys.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing effective day-to-day supervision and training of assigned survey crew staff
  • Reading and interpreting plans and specifications
  • Operating and maintaining a variety of survey equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Determining equipment, materials, and personnel needed for specific jobs
  • Identifying and implementing priorities, effective courses of action to complete work assignments by established deadlines
  • Maintaining files of maps, documents, and other records
  • Performing extensive surveying calculations for grades, angles, and distances
  • Making legible survey notes and drawings
  • Efficiently operating survey instruments, including GPS, robotics, electronic total stations, and data collectors
  • Entering survey data in an organized and coherent manner into a data collector
  • Performing related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintaining compliance with all company policies and procedures

Requirements include:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Equivalent combination of 6 years of education and relevant, progressive technical surveying experience preferred
  • Land Surveyor-in-Training preferred
  • Knowledge of surveying principles and practices and engineering design and construction practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Valid driver's license required; must have satisfactory driving record in accordance with EMC fleet insurance requirements and be able to pass a background check in order to work on military, industrial, and port sites
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

Physical requirements include:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
  • Regularly work on repetitive tasks
  • Regularly use hands and fingers to handle, control, or feel objects
  • Regularly hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm
  • Regularly use headphones and earpiece
  • Regularly see details of objects that are less than a few feet away
  • Regularly speak clearly so listeners can understand
  • Regularly understand the speech of another person
  • Frequently bend to file and maintain files
  • Ability to work in an environment that may contain venomous snakes and insects such as ticks, red bugs, wasps, bees, hornets, yellow jackets, etc.
  • Must be able to withstand regular exposure to outdoor worksite weather conditions that may be wet and/or humid environments, with extreme cold and/or heat; sites may be moderate to moderately loud
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly on telephone
  • May be required to drive long distances daily
  • May be required to travel overnight
