Survey Party Chief

Job Summary

The Survey Party Chief position provides front-line supervisory guidance to survey field crews while performing preliminary, construction, boundary and control surveys.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides effective day-to-day supervision and training of assigned survey crew staff.
  • Reads and interprets plans and specifications.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of survey equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Determines equipment, materials and personnel needed for specific jobs.
  • Identifies and implements priorities, effective courses of action in order to complete work assignments by established deadlines.
  • Maintains files of maps, documents, and other records.
  • Performs extensive surveying calculations for grades, angles and distances.
  • Makes legible survey notes and drawings.
  • Efficiently operates survey instruments, including GPS, robotics, electronic total stations and data collectors.
  • Enters survey data in an organized and coherent manner into a data collector.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Equivalent combination of 6 years of education and relevant, progressive technical surveying experience preferred.
  • Land Surveyor-in-Training preferred.
  • Knowledge of surveying principles and practices and engineering design and construction practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Valid driver's license required; must have satisfactory driving record in accordance with EMC fleet insurance requirements and be able to pass a background check in order to work on military, industrial, and port sites.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

  • Ability to work in an environment that may contain venomous snakes and insects such as ticks, red bugs, wasps, bees, hornets, yellow jackets, etc.
  • Must be able to withstand regular exposure to outdoor worksite weather conditions that may be wet and/or humid environments, with extreme cold and/or heat; sites may be moderate to moderately loud.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
  • May be required to drive long distances daily.
  • May be required to travel overnight.
