Job TitleSurvey Party Chief
Job SummaryThe Survey Party Chief position provides front-line supervisory guidance to survey field crews while performing preliminary, construction, boundary and control surveys.
Key Responsibilities- Provides effective day-to-day supervision and training of assigned survey crew staff.
- Reads and interprets plans and specifications.
- Operates and maintains a variety of survey equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Determines equipment, materials and personnel needed for specific jobs.
- Identifies and implements priorities, effective courses of action in order to complete work assignments by established deadlines.
- Maintains files of maps, documents, and other records.
- Performs extensive surveying calculations for grades, angles and distances.
- Makes legible survey notes and drawings.
- Efficiently operates survey instruments, including GPS, robotics, electronic total stations and data collectors.
- Enters survey data in an organized and coherent manner into a data collector.
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Equivalent combination of 6 years of education and relevant, progressive technical surveying experience preferred.
- Land Surveyor-in-Training preferred.
- Knowledge of surveying principles and practices and engineering design and construction practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
- Valid driver's license required; must have satisfactory driving record in accordance with EMC fleet insurance requirements and be able to pass a background check in order to work on military, industrial, and port sites.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Regularly work on repetitive tasks.

- Regularly hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.

- Ability to work in an environment that may contain venomous snakes and insects such as ticks, red bugs, wasps, bees, hornets, yellow jackets, etc.
- Must be able to withstand regular exposure to outdoor worksite weather conditions that may be wet and/or humid environments, with extreme cold and/or heat; sites may be moderate to moderately loud.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
- May be required to drive long distances daily.
- May be required to travel overnight.
