Lead Search Architect:
Marketplace Search
The Marketplace Search division is responsible for developing innovative features and user experiences that enable travelers to seamlessly search and book a comprehensive range of travel products on our platform.
Job Overview:
The primary focus of this role is to deliver next-generation Search architecture and strategic guidance to the Marketplace Team within our GBT Solutions.
This position involves close collaboration with Product owners, business stakeholders, and Search engineers to formulate advanced architectural plans, technology selections, design frameworks, and ensure data integrity throughout the lifecycle.
A Principal Engineer in this capacity will address challenges, devise architectural strategies and solutions, conduct thorough architectural assessments, and provide recommendations regarding application management (whether to replace, retire, or maintain existing systems).
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of the overall search platform roadmap and oversee implementation.
- Engage in architectural evaluations and design for core infrastructure domains that support Marketplace capabilities.
- Contribute to the design of integrated systems across Marketplace and GBT solutions.
- Determine data extraction methods and transformation rules for projects of varying complexity.
- Participate in the assessment of emerging technologies and provide recommendations.
- Assist in the creation and upkeep of the envisioned north star architecture.
Foster a company-wide perspective to advocate for the adoption of standards and practices, promoting reuse, particularly in AI Search initiatives.
- Collaborate in the design and implementation of the Marketplace data model and metadata frameworks.- Analyze technology trends and market dynamics to assess their implications for Marketplace Architecture.
Qualifications:
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and external partners, including business stakeholders and third-party vendors.
- Provide guidance to engineers and resources on design methodologies and best practices.
- Address and resolve moderately complex issues arising from the Search platform roadmap and design processes.
- Engage with stakeholders to gather and clarify client requirements.
Familiarity with analytical techniques and tools that facilitate effective problem-solving; ability to identify root causes of organizational challenges and propose viable solutions.
- Work alongside data engineers to curate and process extensive text datasets for model training.- Integrate Large Language Models into product applications and develop user-friendly interfaces for model interaction.
- Minimum of 5 years in a technical leadership role with a focus on setting technical direction.
- At least 3 years of experience in a complex, matrixed organization managing cross-functional or cross-business projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
A four-year degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Familiarity with Large Language Models (Open AI LLMs), AI application development frameworks, vector databases, and natural language processing.
- Experience with open-source search technologies such as Elasticsearch or Solr.
- Proficient in Java and the Spring framework.
- Expertise in search engine optimization, user journey mapping, search relevance, and high-availability architecture.
- Experience with eCommerce platforms.
- Knowledge of metadata, taxonomy, and search integration.
- Strong track record of delivering components, products, and experiences in public cloud and/or hybrid environments.
- Cloud development experience, including platforms like AWS or Azure.
Deep understanding and experience in two or more of the following areas: complex e-commerce applications, real-time event processing, data lakes, cloud data processing, SQL and NoSQL data modeling.
- Solid grasp of Agile SDLC implementation in production environments, including environment management, test automation, peer reviews, CI/CD, and optimization.Exceptional communication skills with the ability to address critical issues, mentor and coach team members, and advocate for new technologies and solutions.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this position is competitive and reflective of the candidate's experience and qualifications.
