The Operations Manager plays a critical role in ensuring that the company can efficiently produce a wide variety of products while maintaining high quality, meeting customer demands, and controlling costs. Key Responsibilities
  • Production Planning and Scheduling
    • Develop and manage production schedules that accommodate the low volume, high mix nature of the manufacturing process, ensuring timely delivery of products.
    • Evaluate and plan for the capacity needed to meet production demands, considering the variability in product types and volumes.
  • Inventory Management
    • Manage inventory levels to ensure materials and components are available for production without excess stock, which ties up capital.
  • Supply Chain Management
    • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials, negotiate contracts, and address any supply chain disruptions.
  • Quality Control and Assurance
    • Establish and enforce quality control procedures to ensure that all products meet the required specifications and standards.
    • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and reduce defects.
  • Leadership and Development
    • Oversee the hiring, training, and development of production staff, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to operate effectively in a high-mix environment.
  • Operations Management
    • Develop and manage the operations budget, controlling costs while achieving production goals.
    • Implement Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste, improve process efficiency, and increase flexibility in handling various product types.
  • Process Improvement
    • Continuously assess and refine manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce cycle times, and accommodate product variability.
    • Evaluate opportunities for automation and advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance production efficiency without compromising the ability to handle a high mix of products.

Requirements
  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience
    • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in a high-mix environment.
  • Skills
    • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
    • Proven ability to manage complex production schedules and diverse product lines.
    • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Industry Experience
    • Experience in heavy equipment manufacturing or a related industry is preferred.
