Job Summary

As a key member of the Matheson Tri-Gas team, the Strategic Sourcing Director will be responsible for providing exceptional support to our facilities and customer base. The successful candidate will achieve the best cost and service to our internal and external customers, while leading the sourcing team to meet company and customer goals.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement best-in-class processes to manage overall procurement efforts and drive corporate savings through identification, analysis, and establishment of common strategic practices.
  2. Review branch inventory patterns, purchase patterns, and inventory levels to ensure proper inventory management, resulting in maximum inventory turns. Collaborate with MRP to achieve corporate-wide reduction in inventories.
  3. Improve product costs and quality position through negotiations and supply agreements with qualified suppliers and new suppliers, ensuring equal to or better pricing than our competition.
  4. Obtain 1-year firm pricing for products whenever possible.
  5. Control escalation costs on supply agreements with terms greater than one year.
  6. Develop, implement, and coordinate improvement projects in quality, cost, and delivery between the supplier base and individual manufacturing locations. Ensure manufacturing facilities procure products based on supply agreements instead of purchasing independently.
  7. Ensure on-time deliveries of 95% as measured in product shipped on time from suppliers. Confirm MATHESON purchase orders via email or fax with committed ship dates. Products shipped from suppliers must meet or exceed MATHESON product specifications.
  8. Negotiate supplier agreements resulting in additional company savings, such as consigned inventories, reduced freight costs, supplier warehousing of empty MATHESON cylinders to reduce lead times and freight costs, resulting in reduced inventories at Matheson locations.
  9. Interface as a liaison between purchasing, manufacturing, tech services, product management, and other departments to ensure continuity and effectiveness of addressing cost improvement initiatives.
  10. Monitor supplier performance through on-site audits (minimum 3-5 annually) and ISO format paper audits (minimum 7-10 annually). Collaborate with the quality department to coordinate and perform these audits.
  11. Monitor supplier performance for product quality, specification conformance, accurate documentation, and on-time shipments. Use supplier performance results to negotiate future agreements and determine the long-term viability of the supplier to MATHESON.
  12. Take an active role in supplier non-conformance issues.
  13. Develop U.S. and global sources as needed to meet quality, delivery, and price objectives.
  14. Ensure uninterrupted sources of material supply.
  15. Create and execute comprehensive supply management strategies to reduce risk of supply (contingency supply chain management).
  16. Develop strategic and tactical sourcing strategies.
  17. Understand supplier capabilities.
  18. Establish good working relationships with suppliers and implement strategic sourcing relationships.
  19. Negotiate exclusive agreements with suppliers to provide MATHESON with a competitive edge over our competitors whenever possible.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 7-9 years of experience in the electronics gas business, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in procurement or a related field. The candidate should have excellent communication and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of procurement principles and practices. They will be able to analyze complex data, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop effective solutions to drive business results.
