POSITION: Crisis Support Counselor, Virginia Programs (Full-Time)
HOURS PER WEEK: 40 hours per week; Shift times may vary based on operational needs
POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Crisis Support Counselor within the Virginia Programs at a nationally recognized Crisis Center of Excellence, you will deliver essential support through empathetic listening and emotional guidance via phone and text communications. This role primarily involves assisting individuals from Virginia, contributing to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, Mobile Crisis Response, and other vital services. The position may alternate between phone, chat, and text interactions depending on availability and operational demands in the dynamic 988 system.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct crisis intervention, risk evaluation, and provide referrals to individuals seeking help
- Respond to inquiries through designated communication platforms
- Comply with lifeline standards and organizational guidelines
- Engage in safety assessments and risk management protocols
- Perform follow-up communications with individuals in need
- Ensure confidentiality and privacy of all callers
- Maintain accurate documentation of all interactions
- Collaborate effectively with supervisors and support personnel
- Assist in crisis service operations with additional responsibilities as necessary

REQUIREMENTS:
- Preferred degree in relevant fields or equivalent experience

- Empathy and resilience in distressing situations
- Availability for weekend and holiday shifts
