Role Summary: The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will be responsible for managing the EHS programs at the facility. This role involves collaboration with both site leadership and corporate EHS teams to ensure a safe and healthy workplace, adhering to OSHA standards and other relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Corporate Director of EHS to develop and implement effective strategies aimed at enhancing employee safety awareness, minimizing accidents, and monitoring safety performance.
- Work closely with site teams to roll out EHS programs, ensuring all employees understand and adhere to safety and environmental policies.
- Provide guidance and support to site teams regarding safety, health, and environmental issues, and recommend best practices for hazard control.
- Lead the creation of risk assessment methodologies to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Assist in prioritizing the reduction of incidents through education, training, and stringent safety protocols.
- Manage the incident reporting and near-miss program, conducting investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Facilitate safety committee meetings, overseeing inspections and ensuring follow-up on action items.
- Administer the workers' compensation program, ensuring timely reporting and collaboration with HR on employee accommodations.
- Engage in chemical and hazardous materials management, ensuring compliance with safety data sheet requirements.
- Lead environmental initiatives, including waste recycling and energy conservation efforts.
- Act as the primary contact for all local, state, and federal EHS inquiries, partnering with legal teams during environmental investigations.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to safety and environmental management.
- Oversee the plant safety audit program, ensuring audits are conducted and results are utilized for continuous improvement.
- Develop and maintain EHS policies and procedures, ensuring they are effectively communicated and implemented.
- Prepare EHS performance reports, sharing insights and recommendations with plant leadership.
- Collaborate with HR on training plans and maintain training records in accordance with company standards.
- Mentor and develop EHS team members, providing ongoing feedback and support.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will possess:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety or Environmental Science; advanced degrees are advantageous.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in safety and environmental management, preferably in food manufacturing.
- Experience in leading teams and managing direct reports.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated success in implementing effective EHS programs.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations governing food processing operations.
- Expertise in Workers' Compensation claim management.
- Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, and ISO 14001 standards.
- Proficient problem-solving skills, with knowledge of LEAN and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Effective training capabilities for diverse audiences.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
