Medical Assistant Supervisor Job Description

Overview:

Texas Oncology is seeking a Medical Assistant Supervisor to oversee the Medical Assistant department and support the Willowbrook location in Houston, Texas. This role will be responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient patient flow, directing daily workflows, and developing junior-level Medical Assistants.

Responsibilities:

  • Onboard and train new Medical Assistants and complete performance appraisals.
  • Direct daily workflows of MA Lead and MR Senior roles.
  • Develop junior-level Medical Assistants through instruction and knowledge sharing.
  • Serve as an escalation point for staff, patients, and physicians.
  • Assign Medical Assistants to work with specific physicians according to schedules and patient care needs.
  • Create and maintain work schedules for Medical Assistants and provide coverage for TOWP/Sick calls.
  • Escorts patients from the lab to the exam room, physician's office, or treatment room as appropriate.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtains all necessary patient records as required by the physician.
  • Verifies presence of consent prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Collects data and obtains pertinent medical information for referral to the physician.
  • Directs patients from the exam room or physician's office to the next appropriate station.
  • Prepares and stocks exam rooms, orders supplies as needed, and maintains/controls drug samples.
  • Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Delivers patient education, including distribution of education literature and follow-up instructions.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants required.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience as a Medical Assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting preferred.
  • Two years of previous Lead or Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
