Agricultural Laborer Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Agricultural Laborer to join our team at NJ Employer. As an Agricultural Laborer, you will be responsible for planting, cultivating, and harvesting vegetables, as well as performing manual tasks such as ditching, shoveling, and hauling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plant, cultivate, and harvest vegetables, including green beans, brussels sprouts, cabbage, sweet corn, pumpkins, and squash.
  • Use hand tools, such as shovels, hoes, tampers, machetes, and knives, to perform tasks.
  • Plant roots and seeds, till soil, weed and thin plants, transplant plants by hand, and pick, cut, lift, or pull crops to harvest them.
  • Tie vegetables in bunches, select harvestable produce based on correct size, maturity, and quality, and grade, size, and field pack product.
  • Take care to prevent damaging produce and plants, and perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other manual tasks.
  • Operate agricultural equipment safely, with or without direction, and set up, maintain, and operate irrigation equipment used in agricultural production.
  • Dig and maintain ditches, clear debris from fields, and clean/maintain farm buildings, structures, equipment, and work areas.
  • Assist with farm building/field maintenance and repairs, and repair fences.
  • Work on production lines, grade, size, sort, wash, and pack product, and bunch/bundle product pursuant to supervisor instructions.

Work Environment: Work is done in the field for long periods of time, and workers may assist in handling product weighing up to 70 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet. Workers must work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time, and work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking.

Requirements: Only workers meeting all qualifications on the job order should be referred by the Job Service Office. Interested candidates must contact their local employment office to receive a copy of the job order (ETA 790/790A) and applicable attachments.
