Position Overview: The Dog Training Apprentice role combines responsibilities of a retail associate with the opportunity to complete the Dog Training Instructor Program (DTIP), ultimately leading to certification as a Positive Dog Trainer by Petco. This position requires adherence to Petco's Positive Dog Training methodologies and a commitment to fostering effective communication and teamwork between dogs and their owners.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver exceptional dog training guidance and customer service, acting as a knowledgeable resource for Petco's Positive Dog Training Program.
  2. Assist pet owners in strengthening their bond with their dogs through engaging and educational training sessions.
  3. Achieve store sales targets by promoting dog training classes and products while educating fellow team members.
  4. Complete the Dog Training Instructor Program and associated onboarding within the specified timeframe.
  5. Follow the training schedule established by the Dog Training Mentor and report on instructional progress.
  6. Implement positive training techniques and engage customers effectively to encourage class enrollment.
  7. Maintain a safe and welcoming training environment for pets and their owners.
  8. Foster professional relationships with store management and partners to support the training program.
  9. Stay informed about new products and services to effectively communicate their benefits to customers.
  10. Ensure cleanliness and organization of the training area in accordance with operational guidelines.

Work Environment: The majority of responsibilities are conducted indoors, with some tasks requiring movement outside the store. This role involves physical activities such as bending, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and standing for extended periods, primarily interacting with customers and their dogs.
